History of the department

The Department of “State and Corporate Strategies” (formerly “Regional Economics and Management”) as part of the Faculty of Economics of the National University of Uzbekistan was established in 1991 under the name “Economics and Production Management”, and in 1998 the name of the department was changed to “Management”.
In 1991-2002, the department was headed by a famous scientist of the republic, prof. R.M. Mukhiddinov, in 2002-2005 by Assoc. Prof. I.A. Sodikova, in 2006-2011 by Prof. A.A. Mamatov. The Department of “Regional Economics and Management” was created in 2011 as a result of the merger of the departments of “Regional Economics” and “Management”. The Department of “Regional Economics” in 2002-2011 was headed by Prof. A.A. Kayumov. In 2011-2012, the head of the Department of Regional Economics and Management was Assoc. Prof. N.G. Muminov, in 2012-2016 Assoc. Prof. A.A. Khalmirzaev, in 2016-2017 Assoc. Prof. R.N. Rakhmanov, in 2017-2018 Assoc. Prof. P.Z. Khashimov, in 2018-2021 Prof. A.M. Sodikov, and since 2022, the head of the department is Prof. B.E. Tagaev.
The department trains bachelors and masters in the specialties of “Human Resource Management”, “Management”, “Regional Economics”. Since the 2024-2025 academic year, masters have been trained in the specialty of “State and Corporate Strategies”. Today, the department employs 4 doctors of science, professors, 5 candidates of science, associate professors, 2 PhD and 4 senior lecturers, as well as highly qualified foreign specialists.
The department of “State and Corporate Strategies” has the specializations “Management” and “Regional Economics” for the preparation of doctoral dissertations for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Science (DSc). Today, along with local researchers, scientific research is carried out by
6 foreign researchers.
For gifted students, the department has organized a club “Management for Economists”, whose members actively participate in national and international Olympiads.
The department has established cooperation in international relations with leading higher education institutions of the world, including Germany, Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, Japan, China, etc.

Scientific activity

Research activities of the Department of “State and Corporate Strategies” of the Faculty of Economics of the National University of Uzbekistan are aimed at developing theoretical and practical aspects of strategic management in the field of public and corporate governance. The department employs

4 DSc, professors and 7 PhD, associate professors.The main areas of scientific activity of the Department of “State and Corporate Strategies” are:

  • “Scientific and practical foundations for developing a strategy for the socio-economic development of a region”
  • Strategic planning in the public administration system;
  • Digital transformations in public and corporate governance;
  • National and regional strategies for sustainable development;

Forms of scientific activity of the department: preparation and publication of scientific articles, monographs and analytical reports; Participation in grants and scientific projects; Organization of scientific conferences, round tables, seminars; Organization of scientific internships for teachers; Involvement of students in research work, participation in competitions of scientific papers and conferences.

The scientific activity of the department is closely connected with the educational process and is aimed at training specialists capable of developing and implementing effective strategies at various levels of management. Also, the department is one of the departments that train specialists, there are bilateral agreements between the relevant manufacturing enterprises, higher educational institutions, institutions of secondary specialized education, work is underway to conclude new agreements.

The department trains masters in the specialty 70410111 – “State and corporate strategies”. In addition to doctors and candidates of sciences of the department, leading scientists of the leading ministries, departments, companies, research institutes of the republic take part in the research work of the master’s degree program as scientific supervisors.

The department organizes scientific seminars on dissertation topics with the participation of professors, doctoral students, independent researchers and master’s students conducting scientific research. The department actively cooperates with government agencies, regional administrations, large companies, research institutes, expert centers, and international organizations. Practical projects are developed for external customers.

The department pays special attention to the training of highly qualified personnel. Under the supervision of the department’s professors, doctoral students and researchers work on scientific dissertations on strategic management, state development, corporate governance, management, marketing, and other relevant areas. Today, the department has the following specialties: 08.00.12-Regional Economics, 08.00.13-Management, 08.00.10-Demography. Labor Economics is conducted by doctoral students (PhD) and researchers.

Systematic scientific work with talented students has also begun. Students participate in scientific projects, participate in conferences, competitions, prepare articles and analytical reviews. Scientific seminars and master classes are organized for them. The department supports academic mobility of students and doctoral students, encouraging their participation in internships, exchange programs and international scientific forums.

International cooperation

      The Department of State and Corporate Strategies (formerly Regional Economics and Management) actively develops international cooperation within the framework of academic and research initiatives. It interacts with leading universities and research centers of foreign countries, participating in joint educational programs, double degree projects and internships of teachers and students. Such partnerships allow introducing advanced foreign experience into the educational process, improving the quality of education and expanding the professional horizons of future managers.
The department regularly organizes and participates in international conferences, seminars and forums aimed at exchanging scientific knowledge and best management practices. Participation in such events promotes integration into the global educational space, the development of scientific schools, as well as the establishment of strong ties with the international academic community and business structures. All this strengthens the image of the university on the world stage and contributes to the training of competitive specialists.
Partnerships have been established with leading foreign universities. The department’s key partners include Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), University of Science Malaysia (Malaysia) and Kyushu University (Japan). The cooperation includes academic exchange programs, internships and advanced training for teachers, as well as joint educational projects, including double degree programs. This contributes to the introduction of international standards in the educational process and the expansion of opportunities for students and researchers. In addition, the department actively participates in international scientific conferences, seminars and forums organized both at the university and abroad. Such events allow teachers and students to exchange experiences with foreign colleagues, participate in international research and implement modern management methods in practice. Cooperation with Freie Universität Berlin, Moscow State University, University of Science Malaysia and Kyushu University also contributes to the development of scientific schools, increased publication activity and strengthening the university’s image in the global academic arena.
