Today, on July 23, a meeting was held at the National University of Uzbekistan with talented students from Seoul University, South Korea — Kang Seung Yun, Park So Eun, Kim Ji Won, Lee Jae Hoon.
The meeting was attended by O‘zMU’s Vice-Rector for International Relations Raima Shirinova, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Systems Shavkat Sharipov, faculty members, and the Head of Strategic Development and International Rankings Department Alijon Oripov.
The students shared that they are working on the project “TRUST – Tashkent Resilience Urban Strategy for Tomorrow”, aimed at developing a flood resilience strategy for the cities of Tashkent and Seoul, and expressed their desire to strengthen this knowledge through practical experience.
During the meeting, the faculty dean, Professor Shavkat Sharipov, shared his views and emphasized the following:
“At the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Systems, special attention is paid to the practical training of students. Currently, three main field practice bases — “Chorvoq,” “Burchimulla,” and “Oqsoqota” — are operational in the Tashkent region for our students. In these areas, we have the opportunity to study climate change and its consequences in practice. Unfortunately, climate change is also negatively impacting Uzbekistan: some regions are experiencing increased water scarcity, while others face heavy rains and floods. We advocate developing sustainable solutions based on scientific analysis of these processes.”
At the conclusion of the discussion, the parties emphasized the necessity of organizing student exchanges and scientific cooperation, as well as the targeted development of promising projects aligned with sustainable development goals.
