- 2017-2020 — Assoc. Prof. R.Allaberdiev
- Since 2020, the head of the department is Assoc. Prof. V.Sherimbetov
During the activity of the Department of Ecology, researches have been conducted:
* The distribution of toxic elements in Arid zones to the environment has been studied and substantiated.
* The causes of desertification processes have been researched.
* The distribution of plants is justified through Geographic Information Systems Programs.
* Changes in groundwater levels and mineralization have been identified and electronic maps have been developed based on geographic information systems applications.
- Environmental condition of soils and measures for their reclamation have been developed.
- Bioecological properties of medicinal, medicinal, fodder, essential plants have been studied and cultivation technologies have been developed.
* Bioecological properties of insects have been studied.
- Technologically disturbed land reclamation technology has been developed.
- Identified and evaluated environmental aspects of sustainable use of land and Water Resources.

Scientific activity
At present, the department provides the scientific degree of Doctor of Science in Biological Sciences at the National University of Uzbekistan 03.00.10 – Ecology (DSc) 03/27.02.2020.V.01.15. the activities of the scientific council granting digital scientific degrees have been established.
The department has organized an educational and scientific field on the territory of the Moynok District of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and Bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students are conducting their scientific research at this field.
Many scientific, practical, fundamental and innovative projects have been carried out by the scientists of the department, including in 2022 “Cultivation and introduction into practice of some promising essential oil plants growing on saline soils on the territory of the islet Muynak district”, in 2022-2023 “Reproduction of some plants belonging to the Fabaceae family in the saline areas of the Aral sea.
Currently, a scientific project is being carried out on the topic” selection and use of promising algae on the basis of taxonomic analysis and adaptive capabilities of hydrobionts of the Aral Sea and its dry bottom water bodies.”
The scientists of the Ecology Department are currently conducting research in the following areas:
* monitoring and optimization of environmental environmental conditions, selection of promising plants in atmospheric air purification;
* Biodiversity and conservation of the flora and fauna of Uzbekistan;
* scientific justification of the cultural development of promising essential-oil and healing plants;
* protection and sustainable development of natural ecosystems;
- ecosystem regeneration in man-made disturbed soils, selection of promising plant species in the development of saline and degraded soils of different levels, as well as its scientific justification; waste problems;
- Genesis, geography, evolution and agromeliorative properties of soils of Uzbekistan, their restoration, improvement and protection of fertility by means of preservation;
- development of ways to solve the problems of aquatic ecosystems, water quality and its pollution;
- problems of climate change: substantiating the mechanisms of plant adaptability to the external environment from an ecological point of view;
- zone of ecological destruction-scientific foundations of the cultural development of promising plants in the islands and islets;
- the creation of resource-saving and competitive technologies for obtaining biologically active substances, theoretical and practical aspects of their application, the study of the influence of anthropogenic factors on the soil microflora.
To date, more than 20 textbooks, more than 60 teaching aids, about 10 testimonials for intellectual property, about 30 monographs, articles in Scopus and about 100 prestigious journals on the International base of Web of Science have been published by scientists of the Department.
