The order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the USSR in order to increase the efficiency and quality of the training of highly qualified personnel in this field due to the fact that the development of fundamental research on the chemistry of polymers in the republic has led to a sharp increase in the demand for chemists-polymerists. on October 15, 1979, the Department of “Polymer Chemistry” was established under the Faculty of Chemistry of Tashkent State University.
    The founder of the department is one of the great scientists of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a distinguished scientist of Uzbekistan, doctor of chemical sciences, professor Utkur Nosirovich Musaev. U.N. Musaev headed the department from the day of its establishment until the end of his life (2007).
    Now the department is headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor D.A. Gafurova. The department has professors T.M. Babaev, M.G. Mukhamediev, associate professors K.A. Mirzokhidov, T.Kh. Rakhimov, M.A. Makhkamov, D. Bekchonov, D.N. Shakhidova, teachers B. Orziqulov, I. Gulomova and others are carrying out effective scientific and pedagogical activities.
