Chingiz Aitmatov – Singer of Peace and Friendship

The Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Journalism and Uzbek Philology at the National University of Uzbekistan held a cultural and educational event titled “Chingiz Aitmatov – Singer of Peace and Friendship” to commemorate the 96th anniversary of the birth of Chingiz Aitmatov, a renowned writer and prominent state and public figure.

The event was attended by university leadership, professors and teachers, poets and writers from the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, representatives of the general public, and students.

Chingiz Aitmatov, a well-known writer and public figure, is not only a great writer of the Kyrgyz people but also one of the major representatives of 20th-century world literature. The writer has received numerous international awards and has also been honored with the “Dustlik” (1995) and “Buyuk xizmatlari uchun” (1998) orders of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the opening ceremony of the event, Vice-Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan Yoqub Ergashov, editor-in-chief of the “Jahon adabiyoti” magazine, Honored Journalist of Uzbekistan Ahmadjon Meliboyev, Head of the Department of Uzbek Literary Studies, Professor Hamidulla Boltaboyev, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Uzbek Philology Muzaffar Chorshanbiyev, Honored Youth Mentor of Uzbekistan Mukhtor Xudoyqulov, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan, Professor Dadaxon Yoqubov, and others spoke about the study and research of the life and works of the great writer Chingiz Aytmatov. They discussed the scientific significance of the conference, efforts to further strengthen neighborly, literary, and scientific relations between the two neighboring nations, and the friendship between nationalities in our country.

At the conference, the importance of the great writer’s creative heritage, high human qualities celebrated in his works, the work of the writer as a great public figure, and his incomparable contribution to strengthening friendship between different peoples were discussed. In particular, literary scholars gave interesting lectures on such topics as “New research on the genealogy of Chingiz Aitmatov,” “On Aitmatov’s literary-critical views,” “Chingiz Aitmatov and Pirimkul Kadyrov: ties of literary friendship,” “The art of using folklore in the work of Chingiz Aitmatov.”

After the event, the conference participants visited the permanent exhibition “Chingiz Aitmatov and Uzbekistan,” dedicated to the life and work of Chingiz Aitmatov.
