The geology department of the faculty began its activity in September 1920 as a part of the physics and mathematics faculty of Turkestan State University. It was established in 1936 as an independent faculty.
Training of geologists with higher education at the National University of Uzbekistan, although it began in 1936, the problems of studying the mineral resources, population and economy of the country have been successfully addressed since the early days of this prestigious university.
The first geological cabinets and departments of the university were established in the early twenties of the last century, during which the departments of mineralogy and general geology were established (AS Uklonsky, VI Popov, ZF Gorizdro-Kulchitskaya).
Currently, the faculty has 5 departments: Geology (by field of activity), Geochemistry and Mineralogy, Seismology and Seismometry, Hydrogeology, Geodynamics and Tectonics.
The faculty has 1040 bachelors, 104 masters, 131 evening, 304 part-time, 25 secondary specialties and 24 basic doctoral students, 1 intern researcher and 5 independent researchers. The total contingent of students is 1554.
