This department was founded in 1991 at the Faculty of History of the University as the department "Historical sources, Archival Studies and Museology". Professors and teachers of the department teach students theoretical and practical issues of historical sources, archival and special subjects, practically in republican archives, museums and orient manuscripts.

For this period of work, from 1991 to 2018, the department heads were: From 1991 to 1993-Prof. Ergashev F.R 1993-1998-Prof. Choriev Z.U., 1998-2001-Prof. Vohidov.Sh.H, 2001-2004-Prof. .Buriev.O, 2004-2005-Prof. Kamaliddinov.Sh, 2005-2014-Associate Prof. Saidboboev Z.A, since 2014 and for the time being the head of the department is Associate Prof. Rakhmonkulova Z.B.

In order to improve and improve of the educational process of the department, agreements were signed with various organizations such as the Institute of Oriental studies,Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan,the Uzarhiv Agency, Uzbek Museum, lyceums and professional colleges.
