Recently, an international conference on “Data journalism for sustainable development: goals, challenges and human rights in Central Asia” was held in Almaty. The conference was attended by scientists, experts, practitioners, as well as students of journalism faculties from the countries of the Central Asian region and the People’s Republic of China in the field of data journalism, which is actively developing.
As media trend, data journalism is of great importance to achieve the goals of sustainable development, especially in the field of human rights protection. The issues about formation of data journalism in Uzbekistan and the use of data journalism tools in the protection of human rights were revealed in the reports of researchers and students of the Departament of Journalism and uzbek philology of UzMU. The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, in his address to the participants of the event through video communication, paid special attention to the role of the mass media in solving the problems facing the society, and the observance of journalistic ethics in covering events.
During the international conference, the presentation of the “Course on Information Journalism” for students, practitioners and researchers, published with the support of UNESCO’s International Communications Development Program, took place. The training course is the result of three years of collaborative work of Kazakh, Uzbek and Kyrgyz media-scientists. The book is currently being translated into the official languages of the countries of the Central Asian region.
