BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN AND ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY

The Department of Physiology and Biochemistry was founded in 1920 by Professor E.F. Poyarkov and he headed him until 1929. For the first 5 years, the department conducted training in general physiology for students of physical, mathematical and agricultural specialties. A separate Department of Physiology was created at the Faculty of Medicine.

During this period, the department collected a lot of material on the theoretical study of the physiology of digestion of invertebrates, as well as the physiology and biochemistry of silkworm immunity.

Field research was organized 15 times under the leadership of A.I.Israel in different parts of Central Asia. As a result of this work, a special laboratory of labor physiology was created at the department. The aim was to study the physiology and biochemistry of the body during physical exercise, sports in hot and mountainous climates.

 In 1926, a modern laboratory was created at the department for the training of highly qualified physiologists, which was headed by A.I. Venchikov.

By 1940, the department consisted of the following employees:

Head of the department and head of the environmental laboratory A.I. Israel. He lectured on general human and animal physiology, history of physiology, physiology of warm climates and biochemistry, and annually conducted a special workshop with graduate students.

 Associate Professor Shatalina A.S. headed the laboratory of hematology and endocrinology, lectured on a special course in hematology, experimental endocrinology. Since 1935, she annually conducted classes with graduate students in special sections of the physiology of digestion and the reproductive system.

Assistant K.L. Romanova headed the biochemistry laboratory of the department and taught practical classes in biochemistry.

Since 1962, the department was headed by Antonina Stepanova Shatalina. In those years, under her leadership, scientific work was carried out to study the normal and pathological physiology of the pancreas in hot climates.

In 1976, the department was headed by A.K. Khamrokulov, and under his leadership, research continued.

B.Z. Zaripov graduating from the TSPI named after Nizami with honors in 1970, and began working at the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. His research dealt with problems in the regulation of digestion and the absorption of hormones. Since 1975 he defended his thesis on “The role of the adrenal glands in the regulation of the hydrolytic and transport functions of the small intestine”. Then he started working at the Institute of Physiology. I.P. Pavlov of the USSR Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Academician A. M. Ugolev over his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Substrate and parasubstrate regulation of the digestive-transport processes in the small intestine” and successfully defended it in 1985. Academician A.M. Ugolev is a world-renowned scientist. Together with academician A.M. Ugolev, they discovered a new method for studying membrane digestion and absorption in the small intestine in conditions of chronic experiments on rats and some other animals. For this work, they received an invention, at present this innovative technique is successfully applied in 32 developed countries of the world. Academician B. Zaripov worked as Dean of the Faculty of Biology, First Vice-Rector of Tashkent State University and Tashkent State Agrarian University, First Deputy State Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, First Deputy Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In 2004 academician B. Zaripov was awarded the Gold Medal of I.P. Pavlov for his outstanding services to physiological science for the first time in Central Asia. He is an academician of the International Physiological Society (Stockholm), an academician of the New York Academy (USA), an honorary professor at the University of Rome (Italy), an honorary professor at the South Russian University and a member of the Academy of Agriculture (Uzbekistan). He has published more than 100 publications, one of which is a monograph, and the other is a copyright certificate.

Since 1994, Professor K.T. Almatov was appointed head of the Department of Human and Animal Physiology. In accordance with his research, a new direction arose at the department - the study of mitochondria and hematopoietic elements, as well as lipotic enzymes of normal mitochondria and various stress and pathological conditions. K.T. Almatov published about 320 scientific works, 7 monographs, 6 textbooks and teaching aids, which were published mainly in national and state journals of the CIS, as well as in foreign publications. Scientific work under his leadership became world famous.

To date, 10 candidate and 2 doctoral dissertations have been defended under his supervision.

In 2011-2013 department was headed by professor L.S. Kuchkarova.

Professor L.S. Kuchkarovа, on the basis of her pedagogical and scientific activities, published 4 textbooks and 15 teaching aids. Kuchkarova Lyubov Salijanovna has published more than 300 scientific papers, including in such prestigious scientific journals as Endocrinologia experimentalis (Czech Republic), American Journal of Biomedical and Life Science (USA), Physiological Journal of Russia, Nutrition (Russia), Soсial biology.

Since 2015, the department was headed by Z.A. Mamatova. At this time, the department studied the influence of various natural compounds on the functional state of the respiratory and circulatory systems. In addition, work was carried out on the influence of heavy metals and some biologically active substances on digestion processes.

As part of the 30th round in the direction of “Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and Ecology”, announced by the Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the department is implementing a large project “Development of biostimulants with peptide bonds, used as a bioadditive to animal feed” for 1.5 billion soums. This will be a great impetus for the development of the future scientific activities of the department.

Karimova Irodakhon Ibrokhimzhanovna is one of the young specialists currently working at the department. In 2017-2018, she studied in doctoral studies at the Czech Institute of Natural Sciences under the project Timur Erasmus Mundus, and in 2018 she successfully defended her PhD thesis.

In 2019, she won a grant from the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation and completed an internship at the Institute named after I.P. Pavlova RAS.

Since February 16, 2021 the department is headed by associate professor, candidate of biological sciences Kakhorov Bolta Abdugaforovich.

 The graduates of the department head scientific laboratories in the USA (Makhmudov A.A.), Israel (Shinder D.A.) and other countries.

  Today the department conducts research in the following areas:

  •  Study of the mechanism of action of high temperatures and toxic substances on various physiological and biochemical processes in the body and the search for ways to restore them;
  •  Study of the mechanism of action of various biologically active compounds and flavonoids on metabolism and energy metabolism in the body;
  • The influence of salts of heavy metals on the assimilation of substances by a growing body;
  • Comparative physiology and ecology of nutrition and digestive processes.
