A cultural event titled “Samarkand – Pearl of the Silk Road” was organized by the National University of Uzbekistan in the concert hall in Stockholm, Sweden, in cooperation with the Embassy of Uzbekistan.
At the event, organized in connection with the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference being held in Samarkand this year, the three-thousand-year history of our national statehood, centuries-old traditions and values, and cultural heritage were promoted.
The event was attended by a delegation of the National University of Uzbekistan, representatives of the State Committee for Tourism Development and the Embassy of Uzbekistan, representatives of political, business, and cultural circles of Sweden, as well as Uzbekistanis living in Stockholm.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Sweden, Rakhmatulla Nurimbetov, opened the event with an introductory speech and spoke about cooperation between Uzbekistan and Sweden, relations in the field of education.
Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan Inom Madjidov spoke about the significance of the UNESCO General Conference, which is planned to be held for the first time in Samarkand, the preparations for the prestigious conference, and the rich cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.
Advisor to the Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Farhod Fayzullayev made a presentation on the tourism potential of Uzbekistan. Also, the founders of the travel magazine “FreedomTravel,” Swedish tourists Peter and Helena Bergström, shared their impressions of their trip to Uzbekistan.
In the artistic and musical part of the event, Uzbek national songs and dances, included in the UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage List, were masterfully performed by artists led by Asliddin Dustov, a singer of the State Philharmonic of Uzbekistan, and talented students of the National University of Uzbekistan.
