Isobek Kholbaev is a professor in the Department of Nuclear Physics and Astronomy at the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan. He was born in 1950 in the village of Moylitepa, Payarik District, Samarkand Region. He graduated from high school with a gold medal in 1966 and with honors from the Department of Nuclear Physics at Alisher Navoi Samarkand State University in 1971. In 1977, he received his PhD from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna). In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation DSc in physics and mathematics at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He was awarded the title of professor in 2018. He is the author of two monographs, three textbooks, three teaching aids, two certificates of authorship, and over 150 scientific articles. He took third place (2014) in the national competition “Best Author of Textbooks and Educational Literature of the Year.” He supervised four PhD theses and over 20 master’s theses.

I. Kholbaev is a scientist known for his research in experimental nuclear physics and the physics of high-temperature superconductors. He has led five fundamental, three applied, and four international projects. On his initiative and under the auspices of the NATO Science Committee, a seminar-school was held in Tashkent in 2002. The proceedings were published in full in the journal “Low Temperature Physics,” and the journal opens with a paper completed under his supervision at the Applied Physics Research Institute of the National University of Uzbekistan. Under I. Kholbaev’s leadership and the auspices of the Ukrainian Scientific and Technical Center, the only electrostatic accelerator in Central Asia was launched at the National University of Uzbekistan in 2004. This facility conducts research in the physics of low-energy nuclei. With funding from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) projects totaling approximately US$200,000 on the topic of “Enhancing the Efficiency of Nuclear Physics Teaching and the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Technology at the National University of Uzbekistan and Samarkand State University,” coordinated by I. Kholbaev, two educational laboratories were established: “Radioecology and Dosimetry” and “Nuclear Electronics.”

I. Kholbaev is a member of the organizing committee of the international scientific conference “Electrostatic Accelerators and Their Application”, periodically held in Obninsk (Russia), a participant in the working group of representatives of the main organizations involved in the development of nuclear energy in the CIS countries, organized by Rosatom in Moscow (2019), a member of the Scientific Council for the defense of doctoral dissertations at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2012-2013) and a member of the Expert Council in the direction of physics of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2014-2026).

Since 2018, I. Kholbaev has been delivering lectures and conducting practical classes at the department for master’s students majoring in “Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Technology” and “Medical Physics” on the subjects of “Experimental Methods of Nuclear Physics,” “Nuclear Reactor Physics,” “Accelerator Physics,” “Modern Problems of Nuclear Energy,” “Physical Foundations of Medical Equipment,” “Clinical Dosimetry,” “Fundamentals of X-ray and Magnetic Resonance Computed Tomography,” and “Radiation Safety.”
