University history

The National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek has trained about 200,000 qualified specialists for our country and foreign countries since its founding in 1918. During its existence, the university has become a major scientific center not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the region and around the world. The University played a leading role in the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, and has grown more than 100 academics, more than 2,000 doctors of Sciences, and about 10,000 candidates of Sciences, Associate Professors and PhD level scientists.
  University scientists played an important role in the formation of scientific schools in Uzbekistan. Including in probability theory T.A.Sarimsakov, By differential M.S.Salahiddinov, in chemistry O.S.Sadigov, in the field of nuclear physics and cosmic rays S.A.Azimov, and in the field of optics-acoustics Famous academics such as P.Q.Habibullayev have created scientific schools. Nobel laureate Yu.A.Izrael, famous chemist Z.Saidnosirova, as well as such creators as the famous writers Erkin Vohidov, Abdullah Oripov, and Azad Sharafiddinov, received education from this institution. The university has also gained prominence internationally. Among its graduates are individuals who are in charge of many prestigious scientific and educational institutions around the world, including Eduard Yakubov (President of the Kholon Institute of technology), Ruslan Mezhidov (member of the US National Academy of Sciences), and Andrei Abramov (laboratory director of the London Institute of Neurology).
  The university is known for its research schools and scientific discoveries. In 1928, the University’s Research Officer The first demonstration of electronic image transmission by B.P.Grabovsky in the world, this discovery was recognized by UNESCO in 1971, and Uzbekistan was mentioned as the homeland of modern television. Also, the University’s research in Nuclear Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and other fields is internationally recognized.
  The National University of Uzbekistan has also achieved success in international rankings. In 2022, Qs by Subject ranked among the world’s strongest 500-hole universities in the field of “Mathematics”, the highest in Uzbekistan. It was also highly regarded in the field of” Physics and astronomy”. The international cooperation of the university has expanded, with connections to more than 250 universities and scientific institutions around the world.
  In recent years, the university has undergone a number of major reforms. Based on the decision of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 17, 2019, new faculties were opened at the University in high-demand specialties and modern international standards were introduced into the educational process. In order to occupy a worthy place in the international rankings, special attention is paid to improving the qualifications of Research, International Cooperation and professors at the University.
  Since the academic year 2021-2022, the university has implemented a credit-module system and optimized educational processes. Digitalization of student housing, development of online educational platforms and modern learning process management systems have been established. The university is engaged in consistent work on the international level on the training of personnel and the widespread introduction of innovations in science.
  In the field of sports, too, university students have achieved great success. Olympic and World Championship winners including Ulugbek Rashitov, Svetlana Osipova and Azizbek Abdulhabibov were educated at the University.
  In general, the National University of Uzbekistan remains the leading scientific and educational center of Uzbekistan with its rich scientific heritage and modern development.
