In 1960 prof. G.M. Avakyanz, head of the theoretical physics department, initiated a formation of the laboratory of Semiconductors. In 1970 Laboratory of Semiconductors was converted into Department of Semiconductors and Insulators Physics. In 2012 after amalgamation with Department of Polymers Physics, the Department of Semiconductors and Insulators Physics were reorganized into Department of semiconductors and polymers Physics. Our Department is specialized in the training of bachelor, master and postgraduate students in the different areas of material science and condensed-matter physics. In 2007, taking into account the needs of the economy of Uzbekistan in well educated experts in the area of solar energy, the decision was made to organize education training for master students in the specialties “Photovoltaic and Solar Energy” at the Department of Physics of semiconductors and polymers.
Heads of the Department of semiconductors and polymers Physics: Prof. Teshabaev A. T. (head of Department of Semiconductors and Insulators Physics in 1970-1981) . Prof. Zainabidinov S.Z. (head of Department of Semiconductors and Insulators Physics in 1981-1996). Prof. Vlasov S.I. (head of Department of Semiconductors and Insulators Physics in 1996-2012). Associate prof. Nazirov D.E. (head of Department of Semiconductors and Polymers Physics in 2012-2017).
Teaching activity Nowadays the department offers the following degree programs: For bachelor students: physics (General Physics Mechanics and Molecular Physics; Condensed-matter Physics) For Master students: Graduate courses in condensed mater physics and material science. Graduate courses in photovoltaic and solar energy.
Research activity of our department is concentrated in experimental condensed mater physics and material science. There are several research groups that investigate non equilibrium processes at semiconductor insulator interfaces, magnetotransport properties of diluted magnetic semiconductors, rare earth doped silicon, semiconductor based solar cells, organic semiconductors, rheology of polymers Associate prof. Abdumanap Nasirov (head of Department of Semiconductors and Polymers  Physics since 2017)
