The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Intelligent Technologies operated under different names throughout its history. From 1971 to 1994, it functioned as the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. In 1994, it was renamed the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. Between 2000 and 2004, it operated as the Faculty of Computer Technologies, and in 2004 it was again renamed the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.
Over the years, the faculty was headed by R.Ya. Suncheleev (1971–1974), Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan T.A. Azlarov (1974–1976 and 1988–1992), G.N. Salikhov (1976–1979), Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan N.Yu. Satimov (1985–1987), M.M. Aripov (1987–1988), A.B. Begmatov (1980–1985 and 1992–1993), Kh.A. Muzafarov (2000–2003), and A.R. Khalmukhamedov (2003–2004).
The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Intelligent Technologies was established in accordance with Resolution No. 4358. of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 17, 2019, entitled “On Measures to Fundamentally Improve the System of Training Highly Qualified Personnel in High-Demand Specialties and to Develop the Scientific Potential of the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan for 2019–2023,” and based on Order No. 01-299 of the Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan dated May 26, 2020.
The faculty consists of four departments:
- Applied Mathematics and Computer Analysis
• Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence
• Information Security
• Computational Mathematics and Information Systems
The faculty provides training for highly qualified specialists with deep fundamental and practical knowledge in mathematics, programming, and artificial intelligence in the fields of applied mathematics, computer technologies, and intelligent systems.
Education is offered in full-time, evening, part-time, and special part-time modes. The faculty offers 4 undergraduate programs, 6 master’s specializations, and 5 postgraduate (doctoral) specializations.
To date, the faculty has trained approximately 10,000 highly qualified specialists who are successfully working in various sectors of the national economy. Faculty graduates are employed at prestigious international companies, including Google, Cisco Systems Inc., Amazon, EPAM Systems, DealerSocket, JetSmarter (USA), SAP SE (Germany), WesternGeco, Safenetpay (UK), Sensei Labs (Canada), Luxoft (Poland), Datasite Technology (Uzbekistan + UK), and others.
So far, 5 students of the faculty have become recipients of the Presidential Scholarship of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and more than 10 students have received the Mirzo Ulugbek and Beruni scholarships.
The faculty regularly organizes national and international scientific conferences. In particular, the conference “Mathematical Modeling and Computational Experiment” was held in 1994; in 2009, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021, the international conference “Current Problems of Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies – Al-Khwarizmi” was organized; in 2020, the conference “Computational Models and Technologies” was held in cooperation with Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia); and in 2021, the international conference “Modern Mathematics and Its Applications” was organized jointly with the V.A.Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the American publishing house Natural Sciences Publishing. More than 150 scientists from over 30 countries participated in these events. More than 100 selected papers were published in journals indexed in the Scopus international database.
In addition to teaching at the faculty, professors and lecturers also deliver lectures at foreign universities, including Kazan Federal University, Novosibirsk State University, Tomsk State University (Russia), Adam Mickiewicz University and Lublin University (Poland), L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University, Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia), the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, and others.
