Brief information about the department

The Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds was founded in 1946 on the initiative of Doctor of Chemical Sciences A.S. Sadykov. In 1956, in order to further study the flora at the department, a scientific laboratory on the problems of the chemistry of natural compounds was created.

During the existence of the department, it was supervised: in 1946-1972. – Acad. AbidSodikovichSadykov; in 1972-1980 – prof. O.S. Otroshchenko; in 1981-1985 and 1988-1992 – prof. HA. Aslanov; 1985-1988 – Assoc. T.K. Yunusov; in 1992-1998 – prof. S. A. Auelbekov; in 1998-2004 – Acad. Sh.I. Salikhov; in 2004-2005 – prof. A.O. Sadykov; in 2005-2012 – prof. D.N. Dalimov; in 2012-2013 – Associate Professor A. Kh. Khaitboyev; in 2013-2019 Associate Professor S.A. Mulyanov, from 2019 to the present, he heads the department of Doctor of Chemical Sciences, prof. Boboev B.N.

Currently, the department teaches 10 disciplines in the direction of bachelor’s degree 5140500-Chemistry and 5141800- Chemistry of natural physiologically active compounds and 8 disciplines in the specialty of magistracy 5A140501-Chemistry (bioorganic chemistry), 5A140502-Radiochemistry. For bachelors in the disciplines of the department, a monograph “Chemistry, biology and physiological properties of plants of the genus Lagochilus” and a number of teaching aids have been published, a textbook “Introduction to the chemistry of carbohydrates and lipids” has been published. Textbooks “Bioorganic Chemistry” and “Methods of Teaching Chemistry” will be created for the new academic year. Undergraduate and graduate students are provided with new generation textbooks.

The scientific direction of the department is devoted to the study of medicinal plants growing in Uzbekistan, their isolation, modification and study of the biological activity of compounds, which are carried out in cooperation with state research projects and institutes of the Academy of Sciences. As a result of recent scientific research, the drug Inebrin was approved by the Pharmacological Committee of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan and recommended for use in medicine as an antiallergic and hemostatic agent.

Taking into account the relevance of the scientific direction of the department, as well as in connection with the 75th anniversary of the formation of the department, on May 27, 2021, a Republican scientific and practical conference was held with the participation of foreign scientists on the topic “Prospects for the development of the chemistry of natural compounds in Uzbekistan.”

During the years of independence, under the guidance of the teaching staff in the scientific direction of the department, 10 doctoral and 18 candidate dissertations have been defended.

In recent years, the department has implemented the following research projects: OT-A-10-2 – Development of technology for the creation and production of drugs against skin cancer based on certain alkaloids (scientific supervisor Maulyanov S.A.)

The department also carries out work and established contacts with foreign organizations, in particular, the Surgut State University, the Kazakh National University named after S. Al-Farabi, Xinjiang Institute of Physics and Technology of the Academy of Sciences of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Institute of Mathematics and Medicine.

Academicians Abduvahabov A.A., Aripov T.F., Ibragimov B.T., professors Ziyaev A.A., Yusupov M.K., Leontiev V.B., Kushmurodov conducted their scientific and pedagogical activities at the department at different times. The department has trained qualified personnel in the field of chemistry of natural and physiologically active compounds for foreign countries (Russia, China, India, Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, etc.). At present, scientific research is continuing with the leading scientific organizations of the PRC. Since 2019, the department is headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences Babaev. The department employs 1 academician (scientific consultant), 3 doctors of sciences, 8 candidates of sciences and associate professors, teachers and assistants. The main part of the staff of the department is young employees. At present, the staff of the department trains specialists in 2 undergraduate degrees (“Chemistry”, “Chemistry of natural and physiologically active compounds”), 2 master degrees (“Bioorganic chemistry”, “Radiochemistry”). The scientific direction of the department is the study of medicinal plants growing in Central Asia, the isolation of physiologically active compounds from them, their chemical modification and the creation of new drugs for medicine and agriculture. As a result of scientific research, to date, it has been recommended and used 3 drugs for medical use (Anabazina hydrochloride, Lagoden, Inebrin) and 1 drug for plant protection in agriculture (Edil). In addition, regulatory documents are being developed for a number of drugs. Since independence, as a result of pedagogical and scientific research, 7 Doctor of Sci., about 30 pHD dissertations have been defended. The staff of the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds has issued more than 100 masters, more than 10 textbooks, teaching aids, monographs, teaching aids have been published. As a result of scientific research, about 200 copyright certificates, patents, articles published in prestigious foreign publishing houses have been obtained.
