A meeting was held with the delegation headed by Ms. Yuka Sonoyama, Deputy Director General of the East and Central Asia and the Caucasus Department of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), who was welcomed by Yoqub Ergashev, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the National University of Uzbekistan.
The purpose of the JICA representatives’ visit was to conduct negotiations and research aimed at the successful implementation of the joint project between the governments of Uzbekistan and Japan: “Expanding the base of highly qualified personnel necessary for the modernization of industry.”
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on training qualified engineering and technical personnel for Uzbekistan’s industry by enhancing the capacity of teachers and researchers, as well as utilizing Japanese experience and other potential opportunities within the framework of the project.
As part of this promising initiative, both sides agreed on the active involvement of the National University of Uzbekistan and the effective use of its existing potential. Specific plans were discussed, including sending professors and researchers to leading Japanese universities and companies for short- and long-term internships and advanced training, as well as enrolling them in PhD and DSc programs.
