International Conference on “The History of Diasporas in Central Asia and the Present Day” Held at the National University of Uzbekistan

The National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek hosted an international scientific and practical conference entitled “The History of Diasporas in Central Asia and the Present Day.” The event was organized by the Department of Contemporary History of Uzbekistan at the Faculty of History and the university’s Scientific Center for Interethnic Harmony and Tolerance. The conference addressed the history of diaspora formation in Central Asia, their role in contemporary socio-political processes, and the development of interethnic relations.

In the context of globalization, mutual respect among peoples, tolerance, and the strengthening of interethnic harmony are becoming increasingly important. In this regard, conference participants exchanged views on the historical factors behind the formation of diasporas in Central Asia, migration processes, the role of diasporas in socio-political life, and their impact on regional security. Particular attention was also given to the diaspora policies of Central Asian countries, integration processes, cultural ties, education, and national identity.

Alongside prominent scholars from Uzbekistan, the conference brought together researchers from Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and France, who presented their academic perspectives and research findings on the subject. Discussions explored historical and contemporary approaches to diaspora studies, the development of cultural relations among peoples, and ways to strengthen interethnic harmony.

It is worth noting that the National University of Uzbekistan has been organizing international scientific and practical conferences for several years to examine interethnic relations and the role of tolerance in social and spiritual life. This conference also contributed to a deeper understanding of the history of the peoples and diasporas of Central Asia, the expansion of academic cooperation, and the promotion of interethnic harmony and tolerance across the region. Following the conference, materials reflecting the presentations and discussions are to be compiled for further use in academic research and practical activities.
