Today, a festive event was held at the National University of Uzbekistan to mark the 35th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan and to formally welcome and introduce the first-year students admitted to the university for the 2026/2027 academic year. The event was held under the motto, “As one homeland and one people, we build a new life and future!”

The event was attended by the university leadership, prominent scholars and academicians, representatives of science and literature, representatives of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, faculty members, students and their parents, as well as representatives of the wider public.

Opening the event, Inom Madjidov, Rector of the National University of Uzbekistan, warmly congratulated those gathered on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence and welcomed the young people admitted to the first year as new members of the university’s student community. In his address, the Rector emphasized that student life is one of the most important and memorable stages in a person’s life. He wished the young students success in acquiring knowledge, pursuing academic and scientific research, continuously developing themselves, and making effective use of the opportunities provided by the university.

The event also featured remarks by O‘tkir Roziqov, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Deputy Director of the V.I. Romanovsky Institute of Mathematics, Bakridin Zaripov, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Professor at the National University of Uzbekistan, and Minkhojiddin Mirzo, First Deputy Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan. They extended their sincere congratulations and best wishes to the new students.

One of the key symbolic moments of the event was the presentation of a symbolic key to the university to the first-year students. The symbolic key represented the students’ entry into the National University of Uzbekistan community and the opening of new doors to knowledge and opportunities before them.

The festive programme also included a short concert featuring pop and traditional singers, as well as young performers. Live musical performances, songs and artistic numbers created a joyful atmosphere and added a special festive spirit to the event.

The Independence Day celebration continued with “Independence Lessons” held at the university’s faculties. During these sessions, students were provided with information about the country’s development and achievements during the years of independence, as well as the substance and significance of the reforms being implemented as part of the construction of New Uzbekistan.
