The Department of Organic Chemistry is one of the university’s foundational departments, established in 1921. It was headed by Prof. S.N. Naumov from 1921 to 1930, and by Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan I.P. Tsukervanik from 1931 to 1967. Academician Tsukervanik was a prominent scientist in the field of organic chemistry and founded a world-renowned scientific school focused on the alkylation and acylation of aromatic compounds and their derivatives.
Following I.P. Tsukervanik’s passing, the department was led by Prof. A.R. Abdurasuleva (1967–1984), Prof. Kh.Y. Yuldashev (1984–1992), Prof. K.N. Akhmedov (1992–2007), Assoc. Prof. Kh.S. Tadjimukhamedov (2007–2013), Ph.D. U.Ch. Akhmedov (2013–2015), and once again Assoc. Prof. Kh.S. Tadjimukhamedov (2015–2017).
As of November 1, 2024, the department was renamed the “Department of Organic and Oil & Gas Chemistry”following the integration of the Oil and Gas programs. Currently, the department is chaired by Dr. T.S. Kholikov.
The current faculty includes Prof. A.K. Abdushukurov, Assoc. Prof. Kh.S. Tadjimukhamedov, Prof. S.E. Nurmanov, Prof. Sh.S. Arslanov, Prof. M.R. Yuldasheva, Prof. T.S. Kholikov, Dr. N.N. Mamatkulov, Dr. A.S. Parmanov, Dr. O.Sh. Kodirov, Associate Professors G.Z. Azimova and F.A. Sapaev, and PhDs Ch.G. Yodgorov, Yu.U. Islomova, and J. Abdullaev.
The faculty members are successors of the established scientific school. In addition to maintaining high standards of educational and methodological work, the team conducts research in priority areas of organic chemistry, specifically the alkylation and acylation of aromatic hydrocarbons and their functional derivatives using catalytic amounts of catalysts.
