From April 20 to 22, 2026, a three-day intensive seminar titled “Information Integrity, Gender, Safety, and Artificial Intelligence in Journalism Education” was held in Tashkent. Professors and lecturers from the Department of Journalism at the National University of Uzbekistan also took part in the event.

The first day of the seminar focused on information integrity and the challenges of disinformation. Under the guidance of international expert Serhii Shturkhetskyi, participants analyzed how algorithms shape information consumption and how the business models of social media platforms influence the spread of misinformation.
The second day centered on gender-sensitive journalism and standards for covering political processes. Together with experts, participants discussed issues of gender bias in media and maintaining balance when working with sources.
Special attention was also given to the legal, digital, and physical safety of journalists. Participants developed new training modules on cybersecurity fundamentals, source protection, and risk assessment.

The final stage of the seminar was devoted to the opportunities and risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism.
The seminar went beyond theoretical knowledge, as participants engaged in practical work to adapt the syllabi of their courses to modern requirements. Each participant developed a concrete action plan for the upcoming semester.

At the conclusion of the event, all participants were awarded internationally recognized certificates. This seminar marked an important step toward bringing journalism education at the National University of Uzbekistan in line with international standards.
