Research Internship Opportunity in Korea: Applications Open for the Visiting Scholars Program

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Seoul, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), operating under the Government of the Republic of Korea, has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Visiting Scholars Program.

The program has been implemented since 2009 and is designed for foreign researchers, university lecturers, and professors. Its primary goal is to promote the exchange of knowledge, data, and academic experience among scholars working in various fields.

The program duration is one month, during which participants will conduct research at the Institute located in Sejong City.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Professional background in international economics, developing economies, economic policy, finance, or related fields;
  • Master’s or PhD degree;
  • At least 7 years of professional experience;
  • Proficiency in English.

Participants’ responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research and prepare an article based on the findings (in the Institute’s “World Economy Brief” format);
  • Present research results at the Visiting Scholars seminar.

Application process:

Applications are accepted year-round. Selection results are announced twice a year — in June and December.
The current deadline is May 31, and the next deadline is November 30.

Required documents:

  • Completed application form;
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV);
  • Letter of recommendation;
  • At least one publication reflecting the applicant’s academic or research work.

Financial coverage:

Selected participants will receive full funding covering airfare, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses.

Since 2009, a total of 124 foreign researchers have participated in the program, including 4 representatives from Uzbekistan.
