Meeting with a Michigan State University Professor

In May 2022, Michigan State University professor Daniel Burke visited UzMU. During the meeting, a conversation was held regarding the further development of cooperation. At the same time, within the framework of the joint project of Michigan State University and ISCT (International Science and Technology Center), the issue of placing an educational seismic station in the area of field training of UzMU in Chotkal was discussed in detail.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Daniel Burke handed over the letter of invitation from the President of the IRIS Seismology Research Institute regarding the membership of UzMU to the IRIS consortium.

A scientific-practical conference was held together with university students and professors at the Faculty of Geology and Geoinformation Systems of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek. At this event, Kevin Mackey, associate professor of the department of seismology at the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences, Michigan State University, one of the leading educational and scientific centers of the USA, met with university students and professors. FYI, Kevin Mackey has been an Associate Professor of Seismology in the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences at Michigan State University since January 2000. His research focuses on the structure of the Earth's crust, the seismology and tectonics of Eastern Russia and Western Alaska, and the analysis of local earthquakes in Michigan. In his research, he collaborates with the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, the Yakutsk Institute of Geological Sciences (Yakutsk, Russia), and the seismic networks of the Northeastern Interdisciplinary Research Institute (Magadan, Russia). In addition, he operates a seismic station at Michigan State University (LNSM station).

At the end of the meeting, the participants of the online seminar-training held in February-March were awarded with a special certificate.
