Today, August 28, 2026, the National University of Uzbekistan held a regular meeting of its Council dedicated to the most important organizational, academic, and spiritual-educational matters of the university ahead of the new 2026/2027 academic year.
Held on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the meeting also provided an opportunity to congratulate university staff members who had been recognized with awards in connection with this significant national occasion. The Council also outlined key priorities and pressing tasks to be implemented during the new academic year.
Particular attention was given to measures aimed at ensuring the high-quality organization of “Independence Lessons” on the first day of the new academic year and creating proper conditions to warmly welcome students back to the university.
Issues related to protecting students’ interests and promoting social justice featured prominently on the agenda. These included the systematic allocation of places in student dormitories for young people in need, as well as the redistribution of state-funded educational grants among second- and third-year students. The Council also approved relevant amendments and additions to regulations governing student life, as well as the university’s code of ethics and internal rules.
With the aim of taking the quality of education to a new level, the university’s performance in the international QS World University Rankings was thoroughly analyzed, and long-term priorities were identified to address existing shortcomings. In line with the requirements of innovative development and contemporary trends, two new units were established within the university: a Career Center and a Scientific and Practical Center for Artificial Intelligence.
At the same time, important decisions were made to advance the digitalization of educational processes, including the digital transformation of the Information and Resource Center, approval of curricula for newly established bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, and the establishment of a branch of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry.
The Council members also conducted a comprehensive review of the results of the final assessments for the second semester of the previous academic year, as well as the outcomes of the state attestation of graduates.
To further strengthen the university’s research capacity, the Council approved the procedure for awarding the statuses of “Professor-Researcher” and “Associate Professor-Researcher” to academic staff engaged in research activities.
As part of measures to support and encourage talented young people, the Council also approved the establishment of the “Rector’s Scholarship” for students of the S. H. Sirojiddinov Academic Lyceum.
