Roundtable Dedicated to the 155th Anniversary of A.E. Schmidt

On March 24, 2026, a roundtable dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the birth of the prominent orientalist, Arabist, and organizer of science Alexander Eduardovich Schmidt was held at the Information Resource Center of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek.

The event was attended by Anton Alexandrovich Yemelyanenko, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the International Islamic Academy, the Central Asian and Tashkent Orthodox Diocese and theological seminary, the National Archive of Uzbekistan, the Sharaf Rashidov Foundation of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, university professors and teachers, members of the scientific and creative intelligentsia, as well as students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates.

During the event, presentations by professors and researchers were delivered, covering various aspects of the life and academic and educational activities of A.E. Schmidt. In particular, issues related to the organization of Oriental studies education and the historical processes associated with the return of the sacred Uthman Quran manuscript to Tashkent were discussed in detail.

The speakers especially emphasized the significant contribution of the Faculty of History to preserving and enriching historical memory. The presentations delivered by students clearly demonstrated the high level of training of young historians of Uzbekistan and their strong commitment to learning.
