The Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry at the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek was established in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 558 dated 19.07.2018 "On the establishment of the Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry at the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek".

In accordance with the Resolution, the main tasks of the Institute are to carry out comprehensive and interrelated research in the field of biophysics and biochemistry, ensuring the development of new technologies of a wide range - from fundamental research to innovative developments.

The institute has the following laboratories:

1) Cell biophysics 2) Membrane biophysics 3) Molecular biophysics 4) Electrophysiology 5) Molecular physiology 6) Metabolomics 7) Genomics 8) Evolutionary biochemistry.

In the field of biophysical research, the following areas are priorities for the Institute:

conducting fundamental and applied scientific research in topical areas of cell biophysics, its excitability and contractility, mechanisms of cell signaling in order to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of pathologies of excitable organs and tissues, the heart, and the brain;

conducting research in the field of molecular biophysics of bioenergetic processes as the basis of normal physiology and pathologies, including the endocrine system;

conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of biophysics of membrane processes in native conditions and in model membrane systems as points of application (targets) of pathogenicity factors of microorganisms and drugs;

conducting research in the field of molecular physiology of fundamental cellular processes involving ion channels and transporters, such as cell volume regulation and intercellular signaling;

Electrophysiological and biochemical studies of the effect of biologically active substances on cells and blood coagulation systems.

In the field of biochemical research, the following areas are priorities for the Institute:

conducting research in the field of fundamental metabolomics in order to elucidate the biochemical basis of pathologies of the endocrine system and higher nervous activity, to search for ways to correct them and drug therapy;

molecular genetics and population studies of the mechanisms of pathogenesis of human diseases and ways of their correction by genetic and pharmacological methods;

study of fundamental evolutionary and biochemical studies of the genesis of biologically active proteins and other types of biomolecules in order to find out their possible application as promising drugs for the treatment of vascular and other pathologies.

When conducting applied research, the priority for the Institute is the development of innovative solutions and products based on the fundamental results of biophysical and biochemical research, based on the needs of medicine, pharmacology and other sectors of the economy in which biophysical and biochemical methods and phenomena can be of practical importance.
