Today, April 24, a delegation from the prestigious Daugavpils University of the Republic of Latvia visited the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek. The delegation included Jānis Kudiņš, Chairman of the University Senate and Vice-Rector for Development; Anna Vanaga, Head of the Science Department; and Rita Baltere, Head of the Finance and Accounting Department.

The guests were welcomed by Ravshan Musurmanov, NUUz Vice-Rector for Methodological Support and Quality Control of Education; Komiljon Inakov, Vice-Rector for International Relations; and heads of relevant departments.
This visit serves as a logical and practical follow-up to the agreements reached during the “First Latvia–Uzbekistan Rectors’ Forum” held in Riga in September 2025. At the beginning of the meeting, the parties exchanged information regarding university activities, modern educational standards, and scientific potential.

During the visit, the Latvian guests toured the modern laboratories of the Faculties of Applied Mathematics, Social Sciences, Physics, and Biology and Ecology at NUUz. The delegation members showed particular interest in the ongoing work in artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and advanced biological research.
During the negotiations, the following priority areas for cooperation were identified:
-
Accelerating academic mobility and exchange programs for students and faculty members;
-
Conducting joint scientific research within the framework of international grants;
-
Publishing joint articles in prestigious international journals.

As one of the most significant practical outcomes of the meeting, Daugavpils University announced a grant of 20,000 euros for NUUz. Under this grant, 10 professors and teachers from NUUz have been invited to participate in a major international event to be held in Daugavpils this May.
As the next step in this partnership, it was agreed to hold an online meeting next week involving the faculty members of the respective departments.
