The Institute of Biophysics and Biochemistry under the National University of Uzbekistan held an expanded meeting of the Scientific Council dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth and 55th anniversary of the scientific and pedagogical activity of the Professor of the Department of Biophysics of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology, Doctor of Biological Sciences, renowned scientist Ulugbek Zokirovich Mirkhojayev. The event was attended by the university leadership, prominent scientists, professors and teachers, and representatives of the general public.
The leadership of the National University of Uzbekistan spoke at the meeting, congratulated the jubilee on his birthday, and recognized the teacher’s invaluable contribution to the development of the university and the development of biophysical science in the republic. As noted, Ulugbek Mirkhojayev is known not only as an accomplished scientist, but also as a skilled organizer, who effectively worked as the vice-rector of the National University of Uzbekistan in 2000-2003.
Professor U. Mirkhojayev is a world-class expert in the field of ion transport in biological membranes and the formation of single ion channels using crown ethers. His scientific research is currently yielding important practical results in medicine and agriculture. In particular, as a result of the scientist’s research in the field of oncology, a patent was obtained in 2022 for the invention of “Pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of Sarcoma-45”. Also, his innovative project in the field of sericulture – the invention of “Artificial feed for feeding silkworms” was patented in 2021, which serves to increase the efficiency of the industry.
Today, Professor Mirkhojayev’s international scientific cooperation is also worthy of praise. He is successfully conducting research on the development of new drugs for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases in collaboration with University College London (UCL) and the Blokhin Oncology Center in Russia.

During his 55-year career, the scientist has published about 300 scientific works, including 8 monographs and dozens of textbooks. Under his leadership, 1 doctor of science, 6 candidates of science and more than 40 masters have been trained, who today continue the traditions of teachers in various fields.
At the end of the event, the university team and students expressed their sincere wishes to Ulugbek Zakirovich, wishing him good health and success in his future scientific activities. The life path of such scientists, who are the pride of the national university, is a real school of example for the younger generation.
